Learning Travel Programs

A single day is enough to make us a little larger, or another time, a little better.
Paul Klee

It takes only a moment in time to change your life forever…and changed it will be, if you allow yourself the indulgence of participating in one of the Bird Cove Project’s Learning Travel Programs.

The mock dig in French Cove is an exciting, educational activity for
participants of motor coach tours.

The Learning Travel Programs of the Bird Cove Project are perfect for school programs, motor coach tours, and special interest groups.

Take Your Pick:

One Half Day Programs (only $14.95 per person; no taxes!)

Ø Enjoy a guided walk to the most current archaeological dig sites (2002), which were areas once inhabited by the Groswater Palaeoeskimo, Dorset Palaeoeskimo, and Cowhead Complex Recent Indian.

Ø Discover what stoked the fires to form the Big Droke Foundation back in 1997. Visit a habitation/living site and tool production area of the Maritime Archaic Indian. The Big Droke and Caines sites are secured and surrounded by a meandering wheelchair accessible boardwalk. The walk through the ‘droke’ (dense stand of trees) is breathtaking in itself, but to get so close to the actual excavation site, brings you back in time. A grassy knoll becomes a storybook as tour guides reveal the secrets which were hidden in the ground for thousands of years.

The meandering boardwalk that surrounds the Big Droke and
Caines sites allows for an enjoyable, comfortable experience.

Ø Hands-on demonstrations and vibrant slide/talk programs enhance your experience. You will sense how these prehistoric peoples lived in Bird Cove, 4500 – 1750 B.P. (Years Before Present) as you see the ancient tools and weapons, hold and examine artifact replicas, and breathe in the saltwater air.

The indoor mock dig at the Bird Cove Interpretation Centre
offers an incredible hands-on classroom activity.

Ø Explore the Interpretive Centre, with its Time Line Exhibit, Laboratory, and Museum exhibits with a knowledgeable tour guide.

Informative tour guides bring the Past, Present and
Future of Bird Cove ALIVE!

Ø Take your interpretive experience to the limit…visit the Craft Shop… which is an extension of the museum’s storyline, as the décor relates the strong history of local fishers and foresters.

The Craft Shop not only offers beautiful crafts of local artisans,
but the histories of local fishers and foresters.
